“If we don’t take the plunge, how could we ever innovate?”

Maria Sara Neri is deeply passionate about the intersection of law and new technologies, especially AI-related law. Her journey into this realm began in 2020 during her second year of university, when she encountered an intensive course organized by the European Center of Law, Science, and New Technologies (ECLT) titled “Technological Innovation and Law” (TIL). This experience instilled a deep curiosity about the complex interplay between law, technology, and society. Her pursuit of knowledge in this dynamic field continued with her enrollment in various programs, including the European Artificial Intelligence Certification Academy in Brussels, provided by The European Information Technologies Certification Institute (EITC ASBL), where she is currently enrolled. Maria is gaining a deeper understanding of the complexities of AI and machine learning and their multifaceted implications within legal frameworks and societal contexts. At the core of her journey is a steadfast belief in the transformative potential of AI and machine learning, which she sees as offering unprecedented opportunities for advancement and global progress. However, she also recognizes that with this potential comes a profound responsibility to safeguard democratic values and human rights. As algorithms increasingly influence decision-making processes across various sectors, it becomes imperative to address and mitigate inherent biases in these systems. Maria is dedicated to ensuring fairness, transparency, and accountability in the development, deployment, and regulation of AI technologies, aiming to preserve the integrity of our legal and ethical frameworks.
