Perry Pederson
Perry Pederson currently serves as a Nuclear Security IT Specialist at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). He has a distinguished career working for various U.S. Government agencies, including the Department of Defense and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). At DHS, Perry was the Director of the Control Systems Security Program, where he led the seminal Aurora project. This project demonstrated the potential for cyber-attacks to physically damage a diesel generator, with the test conducted at Idaho National Lab in 2007, the results of which are available online.
Following his tenure at DHS, Perry joined the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), where he made his first trip to Vienna to participate in numerous working groups and technical meetings. He then worked for the U.S. Department of Energy at the Pacific Northwest National Lab (PNNL). During his time at PNNL, he traveled extensively, teaching various nuclear computer security courses for nuclear power plant operators and state officials under the auspices of the IAEA.
Perry holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Information Systems, a master’s in Information Assurance, and has completed the coursework and drafted a dissertation for a doctorate. His expertise and dedication have significantly contributed to enhancing nuclear security and cyber resilience on an international scale.
