Qatar Room XIX: A Testament to Modern Design and Inclusivity

The Qatar Hall, the largest United Nations venue in Geneva, epitomizes modern design and inclusivity. The hall’s complete renovation, generously funded by the State of Qatar and executed by the renowned PEIA architectural firm, showcases a design centered around concentric and radial circular patterns, symbolizing equality and unity among nations.

Spanning 4,000 square meters, the Qatar Hall boasts a seating capacity for 800 individuals, accommodating 320 delegates along with an equal number of assistants, observers, and press members. This capacity, coupled with advanced technology, makes it the largest and most technologically equipped room within the United Nations.

Pioneering Inclusivity and Technology

The Qatar Hall sets new benchmarks for inclusivity and technological integration within the United Nations. It features ten simultaneous translation booths, including a dedicated booth for sign language interpreters, highlighting the UN’s commitment to ensuring all voices are heard. High-definition screens, a state-of-the-art lighting system, and the largest 4K LED wall within the organization enhance communication capabilities. The room also incorporates 400 individual audio and video monitors equipped with sophisticated translation systems, providing an unparalleled platform for dialogue among member states.

Harmonizing Tradition and Modernity

The design of the Qatar Hall masterfully blends traditional elements with cutting-edge technology. The vaulted ceiling, reminiscent of desert dunes, and intricate calligraphic patterns pay homage to Qatar’s cultural heritage, while sculptural wooden eco-panels enhance both aesthetic appeal and acoustic performance. The use of parametric software ensures optimal management of high and low frequencies, essential for a space dedicated to dialogue. Redesigned chairs reflecting the work of Charlotte Perriand, a modernist architecture icon, add to the room’s historical significance.

By integrating these elements, the Qatar Hall serves as a functional conference space and a tribute to the past and future of international collaboration.

Looking Forward to the Partnership

The AIFOD looks forward to the partnership with Antigua and Barbuda, which will bring new perspectives and insights to the forum. This collaboration underscores our shared commitment to harnessing the power of AI for sustainable development and inclusivity.
